Sunday with the Saints on Catholic Fit Moms for Life

On November 27th, We will be celebrating the Feast of the Miraculous Medal, St. Catherine Laboure.

Her story is beautiful and inspirational.

One day, July 1830, a child’s voice called her into the chapel where our Blessed Virgin Mary was waiting for her. Blessed Mother gave her a mission,

” God wishes to charge you with a mission. You will be contradicted, but do not fear; you will have the grace to do what is necessary. Tell your spiritual director all that passes within you. Times are evil in France and in the world.”

This was in 1830 during such horrible times in France like the terrible epidemic of the ravaging finger of cholera.

One can see a glimpse of this from a scene in the musical “Les Miserables”.  At the start of the movie, it shows you those terrible conditions of the pandemic that hit the city of Paris.

Once again, Blessed Mother visited St. Catherine, as an image of the Miraculous Medal, she showed herself inside an oval frame, standing upon a globe with rays of light coming from hands toward the globe.

These words were framed around it,

“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray or us who have recourse to thee.”

This profound medal had contributed to many miracles since it’s debut in the 1800s.

Such as;

And yet, an exceptional phenomenon was noticed. Those who devoutly wore a certain small medal around their neck were spared or relieved from the epidemic. Symptoms of the plague were observed to leave the victims and withdraw into the gutters of Paris.

There is a small sanctuary known as Rue de Bac in Paris, the convent of the Sisters of Charity, which holds the stories of many miracles due to this small object of the Miraculous Medal.

I have this on a bracket that I received at my first communion and was looking at it in church today wondering what it meant. So funny that I stumbled upon this pin tonight not even really even looking!

Here are a few ways to celebrate this beautiful feast day with books, crafts, foods, and even gifts!

NOVENA PRAYER TO  OUR LADY OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL

Immaculate Virgin Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus and our mother, we have confidence in your powerful and never-failing intercession, manifested often through the Miraculous Medal. We your loving and trustful children, ask you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this novena if they will be for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.

(Here privately form your petitions.)

You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity. Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word, and deed may tend to his greater glory. Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where you are the queen of angels and of men.

Amen

I pray you to have a blessed day celebrating this gift to our faith.

With the Love of Christ,

Maria Cecilia
